What to Do In Las Vegas For Labor Day Weekend

Top 5 Las Vegas Labor Day WeekendAs our nation observes Labor Day and waves goodbye to another hot, summer holiday season, and hello to upwards of two million visitors who will converge on our city in the desert over the next three days that extend this long weekend. For $50, guests will receive a signature Fizz champagne flute with endless refills, as well as a gift bag with discounts, coupons and samples for stores within The Forum Shops.

South Point
7K of Badass- If your idea of enjoying the holiday is less day club at the pool and more getting hosed down while hustling through challenging terrains, make your way to South Point for its second annual Badass Dash on Saturday. More than 3,000 weekend warriors braved the 7k course last year, and this year, more than 35 one-of-a-kind obstacles will challenge participants. Badass Dash, the adventure group behind the challenge, has partnered with Autism Speaks and local charity Dave Rice Foundation, both dedicated to educating and advocating for those with developmental disorders, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit each foundation.

We Know Why Vegas is Awesome... We Want to Hear From You!

We Know Why Vegas is Awesome... We Want to Hear From You!

Vegas is awesome! With 39,668,221 visitors last year, Las Vegas held over 22,000 conventions and had 5,107,416 convention delegate visits! The 2014 statistics show no slowing, with a year to date increase of 4.2% (according to the Las Vegas Visitors Convention and Visitor’s Authority visitor statistic reports). That’s a lot of visitors. What about locals? The greater Las Vegas area is comprised of the communities that make up the  cities of Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas Boulder City and the unincorporated areas of Clark County with a combined population of just over 2 million residents. That’s a population increase of 2.7% over last year. On average there are 4,467 new residents that are moving to Clark County each month, and calling Las Vegas home.

So what makes Las Vegas Awesome? We believe there are lots of reasons that contribute to why Vegas is awesome. So many in fact that we record a weekly video series sharing why we love living here and the cool things to do as a visitor or a local. With 300 sunny days a year our climate is enjoyable year round.

If you are into sports, we have college sports that are big with the locals through UNLV, we have the Las Vegas 51’s a minor league baseball team, a Triple–A affiliate to the Toronto Blue Jays, an American indoor Soccer League team, the Las Vegas Legends, a Woman’s Football team, the Las Vegas Showgirlz and have the Las Vegas Wranglers an Ice Hockey Team, known as one of the most prolific teams in ECHL history. Did I mention the countless golf courses and golf course communities?

Positioned in the valley, Las Vegas is surrounded by mountain ranges and beautiful national parks. With day trips within a short drive, such as Mt. Charleston, Red Rock Canyon, and Valley of Fire, Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, there is something for every outdoors-man to enjoy and if you are up early enough, catch the morning sunrise or an afternoon sunset, the sky is often painted in glorious colors. Vegas is more than the strip, it’s Family-Kid Friendly and as a homeowner there are many communities where we can help you search for where you can get away and forget about the night life and strip that Vegas is known for.

Las Vegas is a Food Lover’s Paradise with over 52 Five Star Restaurants, Roller Coasters and Thrill Seekers Adventures, Shows and Cultural Performances, Cool Pools and Family Fun like no other destination in the world. There is something for everyone of all ages, rather you are here visiting (and adding to the Billions of dollars to the gambling revenue) or you Call Las Vegas Home; we believe Vegas is Awesome. Check out our video series and tell us Why You Think Vegas Is Awesome. You may be featured in an upcoming clip.

Recycle, re-use and illuminate! It's Container Park...

Picture
Container Park in Las Vegas is a family-kid-friendly outdoor entertainment, dinning, and shopping destination made completely of shipping containers stacked upon each other. This Las Vegas venue offers a wide variety of gourmet restaurants and boutique style shops along with a kid's play area that boasts a 30 foot tall tree-house with slides and water features in the middle of the square. Kids of all ages can race around and play with the NEOS Playworld System, a super cool electronic game with flashing lights. All aboard as the monkeys take control of the train that runs on the railroad tracks.

Recycle, re-use and illuminate! Positioned at its entrance, stands a 55-foot-tall, steel, mobile praying mantis that happens to be built atop a dump truck! This unique piece of art was sculpted for a Burning Man event by Kirk Jellum and Kristen Ulmer, it now lives downtown at the corner of 7th and Fremont Streets.

Picture The night time scene changes a bit with the bright lights go on and the good time Las Vegas is known for switches from a family friendly environment to a  21 and over scene after 9:00 PM, as the changing glow of the Catalyst Dome assists in the illumination of this destination. Various musical groups are featured on the outdoor amphitheater nightly. The park is filled with small galleries, fashion shops and eateries. There are plenty of new dining and drinking outlets to wet your whistle or calm the late night rumble.

Art. Music. Food. Foundation Shops. And people.

Art. Music. Food. Foundation Shops. And people.

Just a few reasons #WhyVegasIsAwsome this weekend!

First Friday-Who can think of a better way to spend a Friday evening in Las Vegas?

If you think "Las Vegas culture" is an oxymoron?  You must not have visited Sin City's monthly First Friday festival. Join us and experience it for yourself! Look no farther than “downtown's burgeoning Arts District” and visit its growing number of galleries. Bursting with applicant submissions, you must submit and be approved by the First Friday jury process to be considered as an artist participant. Art ranging from canvas to medals and refurbished trash have a special look when on display for all to see in the culturally diverse way. Come hungry. Once called roach coaches- the recent excitement around gourmet food trucks will leave you with a full belly and happy heart. Or sit down and enjoy dinner at one of the local restaurants.

First Friday takes place on various streets around City Center and Colorado. Shuttles run from various locations as nearby parking is limited and it can be challenging maneuvering large SUV’s out of small parking lots nearby. So put on your walking shoes or hang out and watch a show as you see Las Vegas driving skills at their worst. It can be pretty funny.

So when does this all happen? Just as the name indicates it’s on the “First Friday” of each month, when Downtown Las Vegas hosts this open free street event that starts at 5:00pm. With a buzz like no other, hear from live bands, enjoy tasty treats from the short lines at the gourmet food trucks, artist displays like no other and visit the little local shops that depend on you to buy local, be entertained by the street shows and exhibits and breathe in the open air.

Bring the kiddos early. The scene begins to shift a bit from a “kid friendly” environment in the early evening to a more mature crowd as the night progresses and as the evening “wines” down around 11pm.  It’s a fun place share time with a group of friends or a cool place to spend “date night”. There is something that fits into everyone’s idea of #WhyVegasIsAwesome.
